The security of accounts on social media is indispensable. The cyber-attacks by Azerbaijani hackers on Armenian accounts have become frequent, as a result of which thousands of pages are stolen. The greatest number of such cases was registered yesterday, in parallel with the tension on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

''The Information Checking Center " presents a few simple rules for securing your own accounts from hackers. Armenian users are mainly active on Facebook, so we will present the mechanisms of following the safety rules on that platform, which are also applicable for other social networks.

    Passwords

Let’s start with the easiest and the most important point. Foremost passwords should not be too simple, it’s compulsory to use numbers, letters, and symbols. While choosing a password, do not use your first name, last name, date of birth, or anything else which can be identified easily. Do not use the same password for all social networks, as after knowing one, hackers can also have access to your all other accounts (mail, Instagram and so on.)

    Devices

If you've logged in to your page from other devices (computer, mobile phone), ensure you've logged out of those, and your passwords have not saved there. If you do not want your data be saved on external devices, use the Google Chrome browser’s Incognito section. In the case of closing it, the entered passwords and logins will not be saved. If you are not sure whether you have logged out or not, you can do it remotely by using Facebook toolkit.
Using this tool, you can see where you have entered from, and exit by pressing the "logout" button. You can also access all entries by selecting the "Exit all Devices" button.

Facebook social network also offers the following

    •  turn on the alerts while accessed from other unknown devices,
    •  install two step- verification,
    • choose friends who will become your trusted contacts.

What is the two step- verification?

This is a security feature that helps to protect your Facebook account by two-step authentication. Special code is required for entering or confirming the login. Those codes you will receive whenever you try to access your account from other unsecure devices. In that case, you will also receive notifications when someone tries to enter your page.

    How to activate this function?
    1.    open the "Security և Access Settings" section,
    2.    enter "use the two-step authentication section",
    3.    click the "edit" button.

Then you must select your preferred validation method, follow to the screen instructions and click the "Enable" button.

For setting the identification you can choose one of the available options, such as SMS message or input password
